Finite Element AnalysisRubber Consultants has an advanced Finite Element Analysis capability which can be used to solve a wide range of problems including large strain analysis of elastomeric components. This capability is enhanced by our practical experience with rubber component design using traditional methods, and our in-house testing facilities which can be used to obtain data for calculating material model parameters. Analysis is carried out using software from MARC Analysis Research Corporation, running on a pair of Silicon Graphics workstations. · Variety of components analysed o engine mounts o suspension components o bushes o torsional couplings · Mechanical, thermal or coupled analysis · 2-D (plane-stress, plane-strain or axi-symmetric) or 3-D · Dynamic (modal or transient) or static · Many types of loading o contact friction o pressure o centrifugal o differential thermal contraction · Results of stress analysis include o deformed geometry o global force-deflection plots o natural frequencies and mode shapes o contour plots of stress, strain, strain energy density etc · Advice offered on which material model to use · Tests performed to provide necessary data · Assistance in determining thermal constants The MARC solver is a general non-linear FE solver but it is particularly suited to rubber problems, due in part to its advanced contact algorithms. As we have a full support contract with MARC we are in regular contact with staff at their UK office, and they will assist us with problems which require special knowledge or customisation of the MARC code.
