This site provides information about engineering research and design work carried out at the Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre (TARRC).  The research centre was founded in 1938 as the British Rubber Producers’ Research Association (BRPRA) in Welwyn Garden City in the United Kingdom, changing its name to NRPRA and MRPRA before becoming TARRC.  Notable outputs of its engineering research have included pioneering application of fracture mechanics to rubber, developing rubber-steel laminated bearings for earthquake protection, and establishing engineering design principles for rubber components through its Engineering Design of Natural Rubber (EDNR) bulletin, first published by P.B. Lindley in 1964.

Now located at Brickendonbury in the United Kingdom, our facilities and expertise are available for consultancy and contract research through Rubber Consultants.

Details are available on the following topics.

·       Design and Manufacture

·       Elastomers in Civil Engineering

·       Elastomer Friction and Wear

·       Engineering Product Development

·       Engineering Test Equipment

·       Finite Element Analysis

·       Rubber Seismic Isolators

We have started to add a few Online Documents to this site.  Areas of research of the Engineering Unit are apparent in the List of Engineering Reprints.  The Engineering Data for unfilled natural rubber is given in EDS19, while EDS16 gives engineering data for the same formulation of natural rubber with the exception of the inclusion of 45 parts per hundred of rubber of N330 carbon black.
